WRU Level 2 Referee Licence

The WRU Level 2 Referee Course is more an induction over a series of matches and aims to introduce Level 1 Referee Licence referees to the next level of the game. Going into greater depth and detail about the principles of refereeing, positioning and the Laws of the Game the course takes place over a series of matches and involves observation instruction and practical application.

An applicant will first observe a Welsh Districts rugby match accompanied by an advisor with the aim of discussing aspects of the game and improving their grasp of the match in progress. The advisor will be a senior Welsh Districts Referee. After this first phase, the applicant will then be asked to act as Touch Judge for a sequence of matches at Welsh Districts Level. When the advisor is satisfied with an applicant's performance at Touch Judge, they will referee a Welsh Districts match with an advisor present for a sequence of matches. When the advisor is satisfed that the referee can officiate at Level 2 the referee will be granted the Level 2 Referee licence.

At the end of successfully completing a WRU Level 2 Referee Course, applicants will have gained a Level 2 Referee Licence and will be clear to referee matches at Youth Level and Welsh Districts Rugby Union level.
